Diabetes Memory #9,056: The One That Really Isn't Mine

Over the holidays there was a lot of running around and I was able to connect with friends and family and folks I hadn't seen in a long time. And I was grateful for having those connections for many reason, but mostly because it was the first Christmas without my mom & I needed those connections, BIG TIME.
And while I was out and about , I ran into someone my brother and sisters had gone to High School with and she introduced to her sister "Sue", who had Aspergers Syndrome.

Me: Hi Sue, my name's Kelly, nice to meet you!
Sue: Yes, I know who you are, I've met you before. You're Kelly Kunik, I remember you. My sister took me to your house because she was friends with your sister and we came to visit when you came home from the hospital after being diagnosed with diabetes.
You were a little girl with diabetes who had to eat at certain times and take needles. I remember because I was experiencing low blood sugars then. The Doctors never figured out why and it stopped, but I remember you. You had just come home from the hospital and you were sitting at the kitchen table eating orange slices and cheddar cheese. Whenever I see commercials on TV about diabetes I remember that Kelly Kunik has diabetes. Except you don't look anything like you did then. You've gotten much taller and you look like your mom did.
SIDEBAR: YES, my mind was suffiently blown.
Me: Cheese and oranges..... Yep, that sounds like me. WOW, Sue. You have a really good memory.
Sue: Yes, I do. Do you still have diabetes and take needles?
Me: Yep, I still have diabetes, but now I wear an insulin pump instead of taking needles and I like it much better.
Sue: Oh, that's good.
Me: Yep, it really is good. Great seeing you again Sue, and thanks for the memory!

And as I left them, I kept trying to remember that particular diabetes memory in my head, but for the life of me I couldn't. Still.... For some odd reason I found comfort in knowing that someone else did~

Sometimes we just have to "be" to make an impact. Actions speak the loudest. :)
