Very Cool.
The Diabetes On-line community is all a buzz this morning with the news that the FDA approved the OK (a.k.a., clearance)for the Dexcom G4™ PLATINUM CGM.
Basically this means that for those who purchase/upgrade, etc to the Dexcom G4™ PLATINUM will be privy to a transmitter that when worn will be able to transmit within a 20 ft range to a sleek receiver; choose from a variety of different colors (not to mention alarms & melodies,) all while carrying a receiver that's only 1/2 an inch thick and works with The Dexcom Studio software.
And according to the press release:
Clinical trials report up to approximately 19 percent improvement in overall accuracy for the Dexcom G4 PLATINUM compared to the Seven Plus, and approximately a 30 percent improvement in accuracy in the hypoglycemia range (i.e., when blood glucose is less than 70mg/dl).
As far as form, function & diabetes technology go, the Dexcom G4™ PLATINUM is looking and sounding VERY COOL.

To answer anonymous you are looking at roughly $1500 for the kit and one box of sensors (a 4 pack).
ReplyDeleteWith my insurance I am looking at $1364.22. What a deal!!!
Sigh.

ReplyDeleteFrom what I've read, the cost of a starter kit is $1198 before insurance and a 4 pack of sensors for $349 = $1,547.

Placed my order today for a PINK one! Screw the upgrade fee. I want that bad boy.
ReplyDeleteDid you know that they stop shipping G3 sensors December of THIS YEAR? So if you order 3 months of supplies of sensors in December and you're not due for an upgrade until after March 2013, you're pretty much up a creek. You either have to wait or shell out the cash. That kinda stinks. Just a thought...let the hoarding begin.
