Not sure what your doing yet? No worries, just head on over to DiabetesMine for a complete list of World Diabetes Day Happenings in your city/state.
Personally, I want to keep the momentum of WDD going - not only for the rest of November, which is National Diabetes Month, but for the rest of the year!
It's a daunting task when you stop to think about it - but it's totally doable.
So my question to you is: How are you going to continue spreading the diabetes gospel, taking names & kicking ass for the rest of November and beyond?

I've realized how much time and effort goes into advocating, sine the general public is so unaware and misinformed. Even during November, media outlets aren't on board with everything - so that's my plan. To hit as many of them as possible with information. I can't contact some of them because of newspaper conflicts based on my day-job, but am working with other D-Advocates locally to do just that. We need to get real stories and good correct information out there. Using real people, maybe even celebrity or high-profile types who might have D-Stories to tell. That's one effort that can go year-round, I think.

ReplyDeleteThat being said, the JDRF is pushing for renewal of the Special Diabetes Program (SPD) by years end.

I'm hoping to get more local things going here in KC in the coming months.
There's nothing that says we have to motivate the whole world, I think we just all need to work on our little corners
For every tweet I retweet or Facebook message, that I share from now on, I will request a pay it forward in return hopefully this will help push the diabetes awareness message further....http://goo.gl/fb/r81EZ
ReplyDeleteThat is a great question, and one I keep turning over and over in my mind. I want to do more - I just don't quite know what. My plan, as of now, is to look for opportunities and grab them. For instance, being on the panel Wego put together a few weeks ago to address pharma and social media - I was honored to be a speaker and I hope I helped. I'm also in contact with my local JDRF chapter to start working on outreach for T1 adults.
ReplyDeleteAnd beyond grabbing any opportunities I can find, I'm also brainstorming for opportunities I can create myself. Haven't come up with anything yet, but I'm hoping some inspiration will strike.
We pay it forward by supporting each other with all the practical experience we collect and share. In Minneapolis a group of diabetes managers meets once every two weeks without doctors to discuss our trials and successes managing our highly complex metabolic condition
