I always have food on my person. No matter how small the handbag or where I am, I ALWAYS have food on me.
Does it get to be cumbersome at times? YES indeed it does.
Do I bitch about it?? Yes indeed I do bitch out loud about my handbag being a mini CVS from time to time.
But if I didn't carry around so much crap (food, testing supplies, insulin, spare infusion sets, etc.,) I wouldn't be able to live an independent life, so I tend to get over the occasional grumpiness in that area pretty quickly.
Currently, there's an emergency granola bar and about a half used roll of glucose tabs (Mixed Fruit flavor) in my handbag. And then of course there's my lunch, which consists of Peach Greek Yogurt and two small apples and 4 cheesesticks sitting in the fridge at work.
Sidebar: Today's lunch (and backup food) is especially healthy because I'm going out to dinner with friends tonight for dinner - And that meal won't be so healthy - But I digress!
Now I tend to mix up my "on the go emergency snacks to treat a low" just so I won't get sick of them. Sometimes I carry Larabars, other times I carry the Trader Joe's Fruit Skins, and from time to time I've been known to carry Starbursts.
So my question to you dear Diabetesalicious reader is this: So what current on the go snack to treat a low do you have on or near your person? And do you change up your emergency travel time low treats just for shits & giggles or do you stick to the same thing??

I really only ever carry glucose tablets. Occasionally a left over GU from a run or something. Not often is there any actual food in there. Too much to carry for me.
Exactly the same as you...granola bar and some grape glucose tabs. I did just find some leftover Easter candy, but that wasn't very edible by this time!
I carry a tube of glucose tabs for true emergencies (emergency: when nothing tastier is available to treat a low). Usually also some granola bars and/or Fruit Snacks. That explains why my 5 year old son has developed a habit of asking "Daddy, I'm hungry. Do you have any snacks or did your sugar get low?"
I always have a tube of glucose tabs, and also one of those glucose tab key chains that holds 4 tabs. I currently have a roll of Starbursts also. At home, I'm trying to get away from junk to treat lows, so I've got a package of dried pineapple slices that are delicious and more healthy than candy for lows. :)
I also carry the key chain holder, along with a tube or bottle of tabs depending on if I am carrying a purse or just a meter case.
I currently have a peanut butter chocolate chip Larabar, a small box of raisins (not the mini, the one bigger than that), and about 3/4 roll of tropical fruit glucose tabs from Wal-Mart. I always carry somethings to treat lows.
I have half a tube of Starbursts and a Tupperware container (the small salad dressing size) of glucose tabs. But my favorite is an old precription bottle I filled with Bottle Caps. I rewrote on the label Mom's Meds. In my cars I have a baggie of animal crackers. They work better for me than glucose tabs... they just turn into dust in my purse though.
I keep the Halloween size skittles in my car, in my purse, in my husband's car.
I really don't like skittles, so I don't od on them if low.
Tried juice boxes in my car but it froze the first winter... (well, yeah, duh...)
I typically carry glucose tabs with me in my car and bag, just in case. Sometimes Skittles. Also, in my car, I carry a pack of PB crackers that has a little more substance in case a Low hits at the start of a drive and I need a little more to get me to the destination.
Funny you post this today...I brought Adam to an indoor bounce place (read: going to expend A LOT of energy!) and when we got there he was 42 (BEFORE JUMPING!) In my stash I had cookies, glucose tabs, fruit snacks and a Balance bar. Of course my nutty 6 year old DIDN'T WANT ANY OF THAT. He wanted juice. So I had no cash, and I had to beg the cashier to break into the vending machine to get Adam a juice. The times that I DO carry juice with me? He doesn't want it. He wants candy. I can never win, LOL!
Used to carry glucose tabs then learned that Skittles do the trick just as well - I *love* Skittles and had been trying to stay away from candy since being dxed last year. Lows seemed like a good time to break them out again :) Have recently begun to stow away Clif fruit ropes for lows. Loved Karen's idea about dried fruit!
Starburst currently for me too. They're in my purse, car, desk drawer, coat pocket... Still have some Smarties, too. Supposedly the dextrose in them works quicker, but really: does anything work fast enough?
I carry a bottle (the big 50 tab one) of tropical flavor dex tabs and a tube of PRO (a powdered carb drink that can be added to a bottle of water) in my purse all the time.
