"We Are In A Holding Pattern Of Sorts"

I haven't blogged this week for good reason.
#####

Mom took a turn for the worse on Saturday and today we (my siblings & extended family) wait in a holding pattern of sorts.
In a nutshell: Due to CO2 build-up, mom coded twice and was brought back with CPR. Unfortunately, she's back in ICU, on a vent, on oxygen and according to the Doctors, isn't in any pain.

So we wait for heart and neurological tests to be repeated and we hope.....

Through it all, mom continues to look beautiful.

As for me, this has been the most difficult time in my life and makes diabetes look like a walk in the park.

I love her so much and seeing her suffer breaks my heart more each day. And I feel like such a hypocrite for talking about my broken heart, because when I see all she's going through -
I have no right to complain.

Virtual hugs. It is so difficult to see the ones we love helpless, and the closer their generation comes to ours, the harder it gets.

Hi Kelly, a few years ago, my mother was having her own health issues. She was in for J-Pouch surgery necessitated by autoimmune IBS/Ulcerative Colitis. While the surgery itself had been widely done and therefore not an issue, the fact that she had been taking steroids for 25 years should have meant that an endocrinologist was on the surgical team but there wasn't one, and when they stopped her steroids, she was literally on shutdown. Fortunately, they moved quickly and put her back on the steroids with a more graduated reduction, but that caused me to seriously question everything doctors and surgeons do and always ask for second opinions, and perhaps also look at life as something we cannot take for granted. I hope your mother has a speedy recovery, but please do not hesitate to look for another doctor in Philly or Princeton, perhaps even moving her to another hospital if that seems appropriate. As you no doubt have learned, doctors aren't perfect and sometimes only persistence will help us as patients.

Amiga... even though I went through a very tough period with my dad a few years ago, I can't say I know how you feel or what you are going through. I can only send you the biggest hug I can send out virtually and wish that your mom gets over this soon... we're with you!
