And Now......A BLAST FROM OUR DIABETES PAST - Brought to You By Kelly's Mom

Things have been a bit hectic in life as of late, my apologies for not posting in a bit!

Any-who, was cleaning out a closet at my mom's (as I'm trying to be a good daughter) and because the crap in said closet was literally making it difficult for the coats to hang properly. Being a child of the depression, it takes much convincing for my mother to throw anything out!

But because of that,.......LOOK WHAT I FOUND......

NO WAY!!!
I opened it up and...........

OMG!!! A blast from the Diabetes Past!

It looks like prop from the scene in E.T. when the scary government scientist dudes begin to experiment on E.T. inside the big decontamination tent.

Hey, can you burn me a copy of that instructional cassette. I wanna rock out to it. Neh, nevermind, I'll just download from iTunes.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I had this lame-O meter, and I remember returning it. But my original Accu Check was MUCH, MUCH, MUCH bigger and took 5 minutes to give a reading (this was circa 1983!)

Great minds think alike!

An 8 track would be funny! We could listen to it in my moms old 1977 Silver Omega - the car of my youth!

You are spot on regarding the ET reference!

Scott S -
Oh I remember the original 1983 accucheck - It weighted like 3 lbs and I used to refer to it as "the brick" because that's what it was like to carry around. I got in many fights with my parents about it because they wanted me to carry it in my Knapsack. I was like "Are you kidding me? Why don't I just carry a brick around - it weighs less!"
I also remember the Pharmacist teaching the whole family how to use "the brick" & my father making us cut the strips so they would last longer! AH...GOOD TIMES

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!
Be thankful and Bolus often!

My mother saved that meter, also! In fact, its still at her house (I asked her to hold onto it because I have no storage space at my house)! Truth be told, this was not my FIRST meter, but a subsequent one -- I also had one with a "door" you had to open in order to place the test strip in, wait for 60 seconds, then wipe the blood off the strip, and then put it into the meter for reading the result. In addition to harpoon sized lancets (and not-so-friendly lancet devices), this $700 gem was the size of a brick and weighed almost as much, and all to deliver accurate readings in under 10 minutes ... imagine the progress?!!
